We don't fill missing data with estimates. Completing a value that isn't printed on a product's label with a category average produces a score that doesn't belong to that product. If a required nutrition value is missing, Etika produces no score — it says “score unavailable” and explains why. There are products like this in the catalogue, and we don't hide it.
How we handle your data
The short version: everything that can stay on your phone does.
- The score is calculated on your device. What you scan is not used to build a profile.
- Scan history never leaves for the cloud. It stays on your phone only.
- Label photos stay on the device. Text recognition runs offline; only the front-of-pack photo you take when adding a product to the catalogue is uploaded.
- No ads, no data sales. We use no advertising SDK and don't track you across apps.
- Signing in is optional. You can use everything as a guest, and delete your account from inside the app whenever you want.
